Make a floral crown with your Cricut Explore

April 20, 2017

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

Cricut Make it now floral crownHave you ever wondered how the Make It Now projects work in Cricut Design Space? It is probably my most favorite feature that Cricut launched when they first launched their Cricut Explore. I’m going to be showing you how to make a floral crown with your Cricut Explore. I’ll be using just simple cardstock and some glue and all my measurements are done for me with the Make It Now feature.Make a paper floral crown with CricutHow I chose this specific project was select the Fashion category from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner of Cricut Design Space. I selected the project I wanted and then all I pressed was Make It Now! Everything is measured out for me and they tell me what colors and how many pieces of each material I need in the information page.

Materials:

How to Use Cricut's Make it Now-8Cut all your needed flowers and leaves and use this Giant Paper Flowers booklet to help you learn to put the flowers together correctly. Once you have them all together and then begin to assemble your floral crown. How to Use Cricut's Make it Now-4I started by braiding the floral stem together with 2 kinds of ribbon. I used 3/8″ wide ribbon that I picked up from my local Michaels along with the floral wire stem. I took it against my daughters head so that I’d have the right circumference. Her head was just the right shape so I didn’t need to cut any additional wire. I did leave longer tails of the ribbon so that I could tie it in a bow at the back and it’d have some texture. How to Use Cricut's Make it NowOnce the wires were braided together and the flowers were assembled, I glued it right to the wires. I just placed them as I wanted them and that was it. Cricuts Make It Now feature is so easy to use and all the supplies are listed for you so you know what you’ll need ahead of time.

Kids Springtime Fashion with OshKosh B’Gosh

April 18, 2017

This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency on behalf of OshKosh B‚Äôgosh; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.Kids Spring Fashion TrendsI love dressing Malakai in dapper clothing – I mean, nothing is cuter than a little boy in suspenders. Am I right?DSC_0662Some of the best fashion I have found for toddlers comes in the form of comfort. Yes people, babies like yoga pants as much as their mamas! But when they make adorable little clothes that average sized people would look ridiculous in – we just have to buy it. DSC_0671DSC_0677These suspenders were by far my favorite find from OshKosh B’gosh and they are now Malakai’s Sunday pants. I love that I can pair it with a nice shirt or just a standard polo and it’s giving him a new look. Did I mention he loves peanut butter sandwiches? ūüėČ_DSC0807Another style I love are jogger pants. Whether their in Jean form or sweat form, they just look adorable and I can’t get enough. Malakai seems to be drawn to them too because he never tries to take them off like other stuff he wears. We paired this pair with a nice henley one-piece and these crib shoes. IMG_3406 DSC_0689Malakai is almost walking and is getting more confident by the day to take off on his own. He loves these crib shoes because he can naturally curve his foot when he’s trying to take steps. I love all the designs that OshKosh B’gosh offers. I wish too that I could have gotten him these sandals but that’ll just have to wait for now. DSC_0674OshKosh B’gosh is a great brand for kids because they sell practical clothing and stylish clothing. Instant Pot Sunday Roast Dinner

April 14, 2017

Instant Pot Roast Beef Dinner RecipeRoast on a Sunday is pretty much a staple in this house. I’ll buy it while it’s on sale and then, if I remember, throw it in the Crock Pot in the morning before we head off to church. Who am I kidding anymore? I’m not that organized so the Instant Pot was the best thing I ever bought. I’m going to show you how I make my Instant Pot Sunday roast dinner.
Instant Pot sunday roast beef dinnerbest cut of beef for sunday roast dinnerIf your meat is frozen, just throw it in but if it’s thawed be sure to saute it so you can seal in the juices. I have the 7-in-1 6qt Instant Pot and I also have the 6-in-1. They’re both similar by the size and ease of use but I’d recommend the 7-in-1 even if you don’t think you’ll ever make yogurt. It’s just a more user-friendly machine.¬†The best pot roast dinner recipeI place the heat on high and saut√© for about 5 min each side after I’ve salt and peppered it up. You can put a little oil in the pan but I don’t have an issue with a little sticking to the bottom while I saut√©.

Next you’ll change the setting to manual and high pressure. You can’t just switch from one button to the other on the Instant Pot, you have to cancel the last function and then press the one you want. That’s probably my biggest issue with the Instant Pot.¬†Easy instant pot recipesgood roast beef recipesI like to add a Lipton Onion Soup packet and about 2 cups of beef broth. If you like your carrots a little mushy, this is the time to put them in as well. My baby likes mushy carrots.¬†roast beef dinner recipeCheck the lid and be sure that the sealing ring is not lifted anywhere and place that on your Instant Pot. Be sure the valve is set so it’ll close and wait for the Instant Pot to come to pressure. It take a while for that to happen, maybe 10 min, but I usually like to help speed that along and add hot liquid and have my pan inside warmed up.¬†how to seal the instant potAfter 35-40 min. you can either do a quick release or natural release. The QR is just going to give you a quicker satisfaction.¬†Instant pot roast beefI remove the carrots and pot roast out of the Instant Pot and set it aside. Next, put your Instant Pot back on saut√©. Once it’s boiling, add your gravy mix. I like to use the McCormick brown gravy mix and just dump it as I go, no measuring. Whisk vigorously to remove all the lumps. ¬†You’ll have a yummy brown gravy that’s complete with all the bits from the pot roast and maybe have a few carrots mixed in there. That’s my favorite kind of gravy.¬†the best brown gravy mixinstant pot roast beef recipePour the gravy over your delicious, quick cooking, pot roast and serve with a side of yummy bread and the best ever mashed potatoes. Disneyland’s Copycat Meatless Monte Cristo Sandwich & Southern California Vacation Giveaway!

April 7, 2017

Create this delicious Disney Meatless Monte Cristo sandwich. So yummy and worth the calories!I’ve been to Disneyland once…once.¬†It was for my 26th birthday and we had three little kids in tow. I slightly wish that it was just me alone because I’d be able to soak in all the elements but the kids have always remembered the light-sabers and the ride I took Freddie on and laughed at him when he was crying. Another thing I remember is the Monte Cristo sandwich from Cafe Orleans. You’ll find it pretty close to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and after you’ve past the famous Dole Whip station in¬†Adventureland.

Create this delicious Disney Meatless Monte Cristo sandwich. So yummy and worth the calories! For this series I’ve partnered with other bloggers to show you our favorite Disneyland copycat recipes and I’m going to share with you Disney’s¬†Meatless Monte Cristo Sandwich. The original has turkey, ham and swiss but I wanted to fancy it up a bit and do the meatless version with swiss, mozzarella and double cream brie cheese. I’m serving it along side a store bought berry puree and of course I have to fry it and dust it with powdered sugar.

  • Prep Time: 5m
  • Cook Time: 6m
  • Total Time: 11m

Ingredients

Other Ingredients

  • blackberry preserves
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 3 cups canola oil

Sandwich

  • slices, brioche bread
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 2 slices, double-cream brie cheese
  • 2 slices, swiss cheese
  • 2 slices, fresh mozzarella

Batter

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 3/4 cups water
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your Canola oil to 350* in a frying pan.
  2. Spread the dijon mustard on the brioche bread, place a slice of swiss cheese on each slice of bread. Place the brie cheese and mozzarella on one side of the sandwich and sandwich the two slices together. Cut into a diagonal half.
  3. Place each half into the batter and coat well. Carefully place them into the oil and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove from the pan onto paper towels to soak up the excess oil. Cut each half in half again and dust with powdered sugar. Serve along side black berry preserves.

To start we’ll make the batter. Mix all the ingredients together well and let it rest while you assemble your sandwich. I used Trader Joe’s brioche loaf as the bread. You can grab all the cheeses there too. It I grabbed mine at my local Krogers.

Create this delicious Disney Meatless Monte Cristo sandwich. So yummy and worth the calories!I removed the rind from the brie cheese and just sliced it up the best I could but since it’s almost like cream cheese, it’ll be a little rustic looking. I sliced up some fresh mozzarella and I grabbed some sliced Swiss cheese at the butchers counter.

Create this delicious Disney Meatless Monte Cristo sandwich. So yummy and worth the calories!Slather each slice of brioche with Dijon Mustard and then on each slice of bread add a slice of Swiss cheese. Sandwich in the mozzarella and the brie and put both slices together. Now cut the sandwich triangle way in half and slather in that batter. Heat your oil to 350‚ÄĘ and fry baby fry!

I let it fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side until it was pretty golden. I flipped the sandwich away from me so I didn’t get splattered and let the other side cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. I let it drain on a paper towel and sliced each half in half again so I had 4 triangles of sandwich. I served it along side a blackberry jelly which was just store bought. You can go all out making your own but it’s just another step I didn’t want to do. I wanted to get right down to eating this Disney Food classic.

Get Away Today has generously donated a trip for 4 to head on down to Southern California! Make your own Fixer Upper style Kitchen sign with your Cricut Explore

March 27, 2017

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

Create your own Fixer Upper style sign with your Cricut ExploreMaterials

magnolia homes kitchenFirst begin by downloading the Kenzo font for free and use this pre-made Cricut template for your Fixer Upper kitchen sign. Everything is done for you. Just load your black vinyl onto your 12X24″ Cricut mat and select Go! You’ll want to use a standard blade for the vinyl and I used the Vinyl+ setting on my smart dial just to be sure I got a smooth cut. My German blade has lasted 2+ years and I’ve really never had to replace it. Once I start getting missed cuts or tears in my paper, that’s when I know it’s best to change my Cricut blade. It’s super easy, just press the button on the top and pull out the blade, throw the new blade in there and release the button. It’s so easy! After I’ve cut my vinyl, I’ll use the hook tool as a weeder and remove all the negative space. I then add my transfer tape on top of it and give it a good scrape using my scraper tool or a credit card will work just as well. Be sure to use quite a bit of pressure so that the image will lift easily when you’re ready to pull up the image.

Prepare your wooden surface by sanding it lightly and then brushing off the dust remnants. I spray painted my sign black to begin with and then once I place the letters on it I’ll spray it white to reveal a reverse effect.

The pre-made template¬†is just the right fit for the 3’X6″ wooden board. I had leftover wood so I just used that for the size. Whatever you have on hand or whatever size works for your space, be sure to edit the image so that it’ll look great for your board. I made the letters 5″ so that I had a bit of a white edge but I didn’t want too much of an edge because that doesn’t seem to be the look of the Fixer Upper kitchen sign that says SUPERMARKET.Now that I’ve weeded out my vinyl and attached it to the transfer tape, adhere it to your dry board. It’ll go on directly over the black spray paint. Use your scraper tool and be sure the letters are pressed down well. Lift off your transfer tape and begin to spray with white paint. My board had some imperfections and I loved that, If you want a cleaner look, paint at least 2 coats of white spray paint. After the white paint has dried, use your weeder tool and peel up the letters from the board. You should have crisp letters that are black and a white background. I used the scraper tool to rough my board up a bit. You could also use a metal spatula and just brush it along the edges and a little over the writing. Age that wooden board as much as you like or as little as you like.Adhere some foam mounting tape or some command strips and hang it above your kitchen sink. I love all the projects the Cricut Explore allows me to do and I’ve made so many different things for my home, my children and myself especially! Also, if you know me well, you know that I had to move everything out of the way to get a ‘clean’ shot of my home. There is crap everywhere and I have no space for anything. Do I throw it away or just buy a new house??

How to create your own felt play money with your Cricut Explore

March 23, 2017

This post does contain affiliate links, thank you for your support.Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut ExploreLearn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut ExploreThis felt play money was so easy to make. It is a little time consuming but I know it’ll last throughout the years which is perfect for play-time!

Supplies

First, use your Heat-n-Bond and iron it on to your felt. This just gives the felt more of a stabilizer and it makes the money thicker by having two layers ironed together. Next, lay your felt on your cutting mat and cut your images. I’ve included everything in the one cut file for ease. To select certain shapes to be cut, just click on the eye that is to the right of the image in your layer section. It’ll hide and show the images you want to be cutting. Just play around and you’ll get the hang of it.

Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut ExploreWeed out the foil using your weeding tool or an x-acto knife. You want to remove whatever part of the image you don’t want. Be sure to leave whatever you do want on the clear plastic sheet. This will make transferring your image so much easier.
Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut ExplorePlace your felt pieces together and add on your iron-on. I use this method for my ironing. It helps the image really stay and I don’t have any images lifting afterwards.
Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut Explore Be sure not to use steam because it’ll create bubbles in your image. Now that you have one side adhered, flip it over and use the second image. If you use the heat-n-bond and don’t sandwich the felt together, your felt will stick to the surface you’re ironing on. It’ll also make it harder to make your play money double sided.Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut Explore I added the Lincoln and Washington faces to their respected ‘coins’ and I used the same method I did for the dollar bills. Just be a little extra careful because the images are small and you can burn yourself on the iron. I didn’t worry about being sure my faces faced the right way on both sides of the coin but you can if you’d like.
Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut ExploreI grabbed the girls this cute register from Ikea and now they can play McDonald’s anytime they want. My mom has some mini windows in her area under the stairs so the girls are always playing drive-thru.¬†Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut Explore This play money is so sturdy and will last a long time. If I didn’t worry about quality, I could have easily bought the paper play money but I want the kids to have this for a long time so I took the extra effort and created it in sturdy felt.Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut Explore The foil iron-on is so awesome too. I’ve been wanting Cricut to come up with a true gold and silver metallic iron-on and this foil one lives up to all the expectations. You can remove the cover film while it’s still hot and the image will not lift. With some metallics you have to wait for it to cool completely but not Cricut’s.Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut Explore
