Quick and Easy Mothers Day Wreath, the Perfect Gift

March 19, 2017

DIY spring wreathI’m so excited to be joining in on another Craft Lighting. I’ve made so many easy crafts that are darling and make the perfect gift for anyone but today we’re going to make the perfect Mothers Day gift by making an easy Mothers Day Wreath with cupcake liners and some ribbon.Spring wreath ideas

Supplies:

Create this Mothers Day Wreath in less than 30 minutes. Perfect Spring wreath ideaThis mothers day wreath was so easy to make. Just buy a bunch of cupcake liners and the best place to buy bulk is online. I grabbed these ones at the dollar store and I bought 8 packages which was more than enough for a 16″ wreath form. The reason I like these ones is because they are not a true white, they are more of an antique finish and almost have a wax paper consistency.Create this Mothers Day Wreath in less than 30 minutes. Perfect Spring wreath ideaCreate this Mothers Day Wreath in less than 30 minutes. Perfect Spring wreath ideaTo begin, take one of your liners and grab the bottom and pull up so that it creates a longer, skinnier liner. Place some glue on your wreath form and quickly add the liners. Repeat this as much as you like. I chose a lot of liners because I want a full wreath but you go for it however full you want it. I also suggest you use the low temperature on your glue gun or else you’ll end up with a lot of burns…just talking about a friend of mine.Create this Mothers Day Wreath in less than 30 minutes. Perfect Spring wreath ideaCreate this Mothers Day Wreath in less than 30 minutes. Perfect Spring wreath ideaYou’ll leave a space blank and add your flowers. I grabbed my faux poppies from Michaels and removed them from the stem. I placed quite a bit of glue on the back of the flower and pressed. I began with my flowers and added my leaves as I went to fill in the spaces. Once your flowers are arranged how you like it, add in more liners to complete the look. Create this Mothers Day Wreath in less than 30 minutes. Perfect Spring wreath ideaNext take some ribbon, I love this muslin ribbon and it matches the antique look I’m going for. You can take long strands and tie them together in the middle so you have a sort of tail looking ribbon or you can take extra tong strands and tie them in a bow. I like the look of flowy ribbons so I did the first option. I think that with this muslin ribbon it looks better the longer it is. Cut the ends on a diagonal and then attach it to your wreath. You can also do this a number of ways by just gluing the knotted part of the ribbon to the underside of the form, you could also tie your ribbon on beforehand and then glue all the liners to the form. Again, this is your project so do it how you like.Create this Mothers Day Wreath in less than 30 minutes. Perfect Spring wreath ideaOnce it’s dry and complete, give it to your mama. I know my mom will love her Mothers Day wreath and its something that looks great all year round. I’d love to see your creations so tag me on Instagram or Facebook. Happy Mothers Day!

Peeps Rice Krispie Treats

March 13, 2017

Peeps rice krispie treats recipeOh my gosh! These are so good and not too overly sweet. Our kids love these as a fun Easter snack. I’m going to show you how to create your own Peeps Rice Krispie Treats for Easter.
Easter kids dessert recipeSupplies –

Easter Rice Krispies with PeepsBegin by melting one package of Peeps, 1/4 cup of butter and 2 cups of marshmallows. I used the microwave to melt the ingredients together and once it came out, I gave it a good stir. Make rice krispies with peepsNext, add 2 cups of Rice Krispie cereal and mix it well. You’ll then pour it onto a 1/4 sheet pan. To press down the treats easily, wet your hands a little. It’ll make the mixture not as hot to the touch and you’ll have no marshmallows stuck to your hands afterwards. peeps recipesAllow the mixture to cool and cut out as many bunnies as you can. I got 8 out of each 1/4 sheet pan. Now take your black writing gel and place three dots to represent the eyes and the nose of the bunnies. Now they look just like giant peeps and taste delicious.fun kids easter treatsSometimes I find Peeps overly sweet because of the sugar coating so I’ve found that mixing them with more regular marshmallows makes them more tolerable to eat a larger amount. 😂

Make your own Yoga Mat carrier and how to deal with Fibromyalgia

March 9, 2017

The best exercise for fibromyalgiaI’ve had Fibromyalgia for six years now. It first occurred when I was pregnant with my daughter and we flew home from a visit to Tonga in 2009. I just kept having this terrible back pain that would not go away no matter what I did. When I was first diagnosed I had no idea how to react or how to even deal with this disease. There have been things over the years that have helped ease the symptoms but nothing has been more effective than exercising.exercise and fibromyalgiaPain relief is not an easy thing to come by with Fibromyalgia but with the right kind of medications and the right kind of exercise, life can be made a little easier. The hardest part for me to deal with is that I look 100% on the outside but on the inside it feels like my body is on fire. The smallest thing can set my body into a full flare and the weather is usually what does it. Living in Utah has had many ups but the ever-changing weather pattern is not one of them.

One of the best things I’ve found that helps me with my Fibromyalgia is yoga. It’s a light exercise and doesn’t use all my energy for the day. For me, when I exercise, I cannot do a vigorous workout. I have to slowly move and slowly add time to my workouts. I can’t just go all in at full speed for an hour. For me it’s been about a gradual pace and being able to feel successful rather than throw all my eggs into one basket and feel crummy later. DIY Yoga MatWith yoga, you need a mat – and with a mat, you need a carrier. I’m going to show you how to make your own yoga mat carrier.

Supplies:

  • 2 coordinating fabrics at 1/4 yd each
  • sewing machine
  • thread
  • pins or sewing clips

Yoga Mat Carrier DIYI already had this fabric on hand and they were already cut to 2.5″ width so I just sewed them together to make longer strips and then sewed them again down the middle to create a 5″ wide strip. I just used the length of the fabric as a starter and then later cut it down to what length I wanted my yoga mat carrier to be. The length of your yoga mat carrier is completely up to you. The loops will be around 8″ round so just take that into consideration. How to press seams when sewingI like to press my seams to one side when ironing my fabric. I don’t like to have them open because I think it leaves a noticeable gap so I try to keep all my seams facing one direction.DIY Yoga Mat CarrierNext you’ll pin or clip the ends of the fabric to they meet in the middle, give it a good press and sandwich them together again to create one long strip. Pin or clip on one side so that you can start sewing on the opposite side to hold together your yoga mat carrier. How to use sewing clipsSew along both edges to secure them in place. How to make your own yoga mat carrierNext is the tricky part. I’m going to do my best to explain but it can be a little complicated. Go ahead and lay out your strip of fabric in one long piece. Take one end and begin pulling it up and then go down placing the end piece below the longer strip. It’ll and up looking like a sideways 4. Take the end of the piece and fold over a hem and clip your fabric above the strip. This ends up forming a loop that the yoga mat can slide in and out of.how to sew cottonhow to make your own yoga matSew a reinforced square over the area that you clipped and repeat these steps for the next side. Once both sides are sewn, your ready to place your yoga mat in there and head off to the gym.yoga mat carrierI’ve talked a lot about finding the balance in Fibromyalgia with exercise and medicine. An effective medicine that I have found is Curamin® Stop Pain Now and is available at fine health food stores nationwide. Check out the store locator to find a retailer near you or purchase it here. It is safe, effective and non-addictive which is important in finding a medication that’ll help you combat chronic pain. Chronic pain isn’t something that is solved overnight and it’s not something most people can understand unless they’ve been experiencing the same thing. Curamin® doesn’t just mask pain, it gets to the source and stops it.For me, finding balance was the hardest part of Fibromyalgia. There are so many great resources to help you find what helps others but it’s also important to find out what works for you. I’m able to exercise continually because I have learned when my body has had enough and I’ve had a lot of trial and error with multiple medications. Natural is always best in my book but you know your body best and you know what it needs. Find a great doctor that will listen to your concerns and if you feel like you’re not being heard – chances are, you’re not.

I’d love to help you more in your chronic pain. What are some questions you have for me?

Create your own Farmhouse style baby nursery art with your Cricut Explore

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

cute boys nursery artI love Malakai’s nursery decor above his crib. It’s eclectic, kind of farmhouse and it’s all the right tones. For this project I’m going to show you how to make this ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ baby nursery art sign using your Cricut Explore. And I’ve include the .png for you to save to your computer and upload it to your Cricut Design Space using this method. Let’s get started! diy farmhouse frame for babySupplies

First, prepare your wood surface. I used Rustoleum stain in Driftwood (it is now called Sunbleached). It’s the perfect neutral grey and I used it on my Hair Pin Leg DIY Side Table. I then added my base color to the inlay of the wood. I wanted my monster to be light so I painted the base in Ceramcoat Charcoalhow to weed vinylNext,  you’ll cut your image using the dial setting on vinyl. Using your weeding tool, peel up the monsters body. It’ll leave behind the lettering and that’s what you want.
how to apply transfer paper to vinylNext you’ll adhere your transfer tape. I love the Cricut transfer tape because it has a guide on it to ensure you get an even image transfer. I use my scraper to press out the bubbles in the transfer tape. how to apply vinyl to woodOnce your base coat is dry, place the vinyl image where you want it to be and be sure to press extra good while the transfer tape is still over the vinyl. This will ensure that you get a good seal and no paint will seep down.  how to stencil with vinylOnce you have the vinyl where you want and it’s sealed down onto your wood, slowly peel up the transfer tape. This will now expose the area of the monster that you’re going to be painting. For this color I chose Ceramcoat Quaker Grey.

Before you paint your chosen color of the monster, take the extra time to paint your base coat over the area first. This will give you crisp lines and will help to avoid any bleeding. how to use vinyl as a stencilAfter the base color had dried over the monster, apply your desired color. I used the stippling method to apply my paint because I wanted a rough texture. Almost mimicking fur. Now wait 20 minutes until it is completely dry before using your weeding tool to remove the vinyl from the wood. how to remove vinylhow to age a wooden signI decided to sand it a bit for a rough texture but this is completely optional. I also sanded around the edges of the frame to expose some of the wood.
where the wild things are nursery artThis goes so well with Malakai’s wall. I’ve listed the sources of the other art below for your reference.

I also love the versatility of the Cricut Explore Air 2. Not only does it look good in the minty green but it’s so functional for daily uses. We recently made Siaki a MLK, Jr. poster board for his biography report. He loved it and so did I because it was so easy.

Instant Pot Spaghetti  Recipe

February 23, 2017

*This post does contain affiliate links, thank you for your support.easy instant pot recipeThe Instant Pot is so incredible. The most important thing to remember is that once you close the lid, it’s not going to immediately take 4-10 minutes depending on what you’re cooking. You need to allow your Instant Pot to come to temperature and then add the cooking time. It usually takes about 10 additional minutes to have it come to temperature. I try to add warm water and have my ingredients the warmest they can be to cut down on that. For this Instant Pot Spaghetti, I kept the sauté function on to warm my pre-cooked beef and kept it on as I placed the other ingredients in and placed the lid on top. This just helped things warm a little faster. Instant Pot BologneseInstant Pot Spaghetti recipeIf you want to brown the ground beef in the pot beforehand, turn the sauté function on and place it on high. Mine was pre-cooked so I just allowed it to warm on the high temperature and then I added the dry pasta. I broke the Spaghetti in thirds so it’d fit easier in the pan and allow me to stir it before I placed the lid on. Next add your sauce and one cup of hot water. Stir it to ensure everything is coated and the noodles are separated. If you don’t coat everything, the noodles will stick and you’ll have uncooked pasta. Now place the lid on and lock. Instant pot spaghettiI set my Instant Pot to manual pressure and high heat. The cooking time I chose was 5 minutes. If the pasta is a thicker noodle, add a minute or two. Be sure that your pressure gauge is set to closed and wait for the Instant Pot Spaghetti to come to pressure. It’ll hiss and steam for a minute or two while it’s gaining pressure but if you have a bit of steam coming from the side of your lid, the sealing ring is not put on properly and your dish will not cook. The silver pressure gauge will come to the top when the Instant Pot has come to pressure.easy instant pot spaghetti

A Tasty, Easy Vegetable Dip

February 9, 2017

Easy Vegetable Dip

This vegetable dip recipe has been in our family for 4 generations that I know of, it’s not going anywhere. It really tastes better than any ranch or any other vegetable dip that I’ve had. It could be that I’ve grown up on this and my taste is adjusted, however, everyone else seems to really take to it as well. We’ve changed the name of it in our family to ‘Whit Dip’ vegetable dip cause our sister in law really loves it, her name is Whit so it just seems fitting. It’s the easiest thing you’ll ever make!

You’ll need

  • 8 oz. Sour Cream
  • 8 oz. Mayonaise
  • 3 Tbsp. dried Parsley
  • 1 tsp. Dill Weed
  • 1 tsp. Bon Appetit Seasoning Salt or use Beau Monde. Here is a link to a DIY Bon Appetite

Easy Vegetable Dip

Mix together the sour cream and mayo until it’s combined and then add in your spices. You can serve immediately but the spices will be a little tougher since they’re dry so it’s best to let it sit for about at least an hour. I love this with carrots and cucumbers but you can serve with whichever vegetables are your favorite. Let me know if you try it and what you tried it with!

XOXO, Lindsay
