How to make your own labels with Cricut

Make custom labels with your cricut exploreThis baby shower that I helped throw for my friend was amazing! She just delivered her twins and I’m so proud of her – mainly because I can barely handle one infant, let alone two. When we had her baby shower, I wanted the girls to be able to take something with them when they left. We like to party simple so we just gave everyone a bag of popcorn adhered with labels we created using these super cute images from Cricut Design Space. I also made the mini onesie boxes and adhered a label using the same method. Links to the canvasses are at the bottom of this post.Create your own labels with Cricut and use them for parties all the way to plannersI didn’t want a piece of paper taped on our cellophane bags so I created super easy labels in Cricut Design Space. Making labels with Cricut is so easy and it’s a feature I use often. For a step-by-step process on the Print-then-Cut method can be found here.Create your own labels with Cricut and use them for parties all the way to plannersFirst, choose your design and choose what shape you want your labels to be. I chose a white circle and placed the image on top of the circle. I then selected both shapes and attached them, then you’ll choose to flatten them. I did it for the green and the pink labels.Create your own labels with Cricut and use them for parties all the way to plannersNext, you’ll use the Printable Vinyl available online or at your local craft store. You can use the sticker paper but it’s too thick for me to pull through my printer and the vinyl is more flexible for the cellophane bags.Create your own labels with Cricut and use them for parties all the way to plannersBefore you fill your bags with popcorn, add your label you made with Cricut on to the front. Now add your popcorn and tie with your twine.Create your own labels with Cricut and use them for parties all the way to plannersFor the mini onesie boxes, I used the Sorbet Sampler Cardstock and cut the shape. I did use hot glue on the fold to be sure that it held together. I then filled them up with candy and looped them close. For the fronts, I cut out a circle using white glitter cardstock and adhered the label to that. For the font, I used Lemon Tuesday which is free for personal use. I love this font.Create your own labels with Cricut and use them for parties all the way to planners

Throw a Twin Baby Shower and decorate with your Cricut Explore

Twin baby shower ideas using cricutI love a good baby shower but I love it even more when my friends are having babies and I can help throw a baby shower. My friend, Lisa, is expecting twins! A boy (who we’ve dubbed as Sample) and a baby girl whose name is yet to be determined. I like it even more when I get to use my Cricut and make the decorations for someone I know that will appreciate them. Lisa is super crafty and so I knew I had to go all out so that I’d make her jealous, lol. I’m going to show you my creations for our twin baby shower that I made with my Cricut Explore Air 2.Green and Pink baby shower ideasbaby shower centerpiece ideasSample baby nameFreshly picked for twinsOf course I had to gift the babies these adorable Freshly Picked moccasins and I had to tie in the onesies to make a complete outfit. I also used the Sorbet Cardstock pack that is available on Cricut.com so all my color inspiration came from that one pack that included 6 different colors. So perfect for a twin baby shower.baby shower table with cricutdrinks to serve at a baby showerboy and girl twin desserthow to decorate a dessert tableWhat to serve at a baby showerTwin baby shower dessert ideasWe decided to do a really simple menu that was just small finger sandwiches, fruit and a few desserts to choose from. For the drinks we did a sparkling lime-aid and some simple water with lemons in it. We served them in our drink holders that I got from Oriental Trading.twin baby shower with cricutTwin baby shower gift ideascricut onesie favor boxprint then cut with cricutTwin baby shower favor ideasI used a lot of the Print-then-Cut method for my labels on the onesie boxes and the popcorn bags. I’ve included the cut files at the bottom of this post that are available through Design Space. I used the font Lemon Tuesday so you’ll need to download that first. For the boxes I had some circles cut with the white glitter cardstock and placed the printable vinyl on top with the “Oh Babies” image to tie in the twin baby shower theme.

I just bought some clear cellophane bags and twine and filled it up with some popcorn and adhered the printable vinyl. I’m not going to go crazy for a favor when everything else is just too much. It’s the perfect ending to a fun night. If you’re ever in Salt Lake the best store to find all the paper and party supplies is called Pak-N-Wrap. This is also where I got the funky crepe paper banners. I know it has a name but I can’t remember what it’s called. How to make cricut flowersboy and girl twin baby shower ideasbaby shower dessert tabledessert table with cricutBy far the biggest project that I undertook was this banner. It was actually quite easy once I got all the pieces assembled.

Supplies:

  • Wooden Dowels
  • 2 Half Circle Styrofoam balls
  • sheet of Styrofoam
  • Styrofoam cutter
  • Adhesive Spray & Foam Dots
  • Paper

I cut the paper on the 12×24″ mat with the 12X24″ Sorbet paper sampler. Again, I used the Lemon Tuesday font and typed the saying “Oh Babies” and cut that using the White Glitter Cardstock. I cut a ton of the 3D Peony from the 3D Floral Home Decor cartridge and I cut them in various sizes and colors. I also cut additional leaves so that I’d have some smaller fillers. I recommend this cartridge because the flowers go together so easily.

Once they’re assembled, just start placing them on the foam half circles. I did place my dowel in beforehand so that I knew where I could get the flowers in a better position. I just put a ton of hot glue where the dowel was and let it set before i placed all the flowers.

Once your half circles are dry and assembled, you can add your banner. To assemble the banner, place the foam adhesive spray on your base paper and lay it on to the foam board. I used a special heat knife to cut the foam so I’d get a smooth edge, you can easily use a sharp knife. Just trace around the image and you’ll have the 3D design you desire. Once you have that all set, you can add the details to the banner. I added an extra peony to the banner as well to tie it in to the base. i put foam dots on the words and attached those last.

Summer Styling and Sun Care tips for Toddlers

May 9, 2017

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. All opinions are mine alone. #BlueLizardSummer #CollectiveBiassuncare tips for toddlersLearning how your child reacts to the sun is always a fun experiment! Even though they share the same genetics, siblings often times react differently to the sun. My older three brown right up and then you have my baby who burns just like his mama. I’m going to give you some of my best sun care tips for toddlers so buckle up!Learn the best sun care tips for toddlers and all the essentials you'll need for the sun.Learn the best sun care tips for toddlers and all the essentials you'll need for the sun.We were in Tonga over the winter (their summer) and we had to leave early because Malakai couldn’t handle the heat. It was so hot, like Arizona heat but with 85% humidity hot. No fun. I’ve never experienced heat like that and hopefully I never will have to again. Malakai was extremely sensitive to the heat there too. I’m not sure if it had to do with his prematurity or if he had somehow contracted a mosquito-borne illness. He’d toss-and-turn all night long, never napped and he was pretty much the grumpiest he’s ever been. I needed to learn quickly how to take care of him in the sun.Learn the best sun care tips for toddlers and all the essentials you'll need for the sun.The only thing he ended up loving was being dipped in the ocean and then laying down in the shade. Obviously that wasn’t always an option so we had to get creative with how we dealt with him overheating. Some of my favorite ideas are:

  • Sunscreen and a higher SPF than you think you’ll need. Toddlers skin is still so fragile and thin that they need extra sun protection. Don’t be afraid to try the Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen out for yourself. How you take care of your skin when you’re young will determine how it looks when you’re older.
  • Rompers and lots of them. The fabric in these rompers are fantastic. They’re extremely breathable and come in different sleeve and pant lengths. These were a huge lifesaver in the heat and I ended up buying more of them once we came home.
  • Hats and large ones too. The wider the rim of the hat, the more area it’ll cover. I do like those hats that look like a towel is hanging down, but fashion over function for me and so I like to stick with bucket hats. Be sure that there is a strap to secure it on your baby’s head. But also make sure that the secure tab can easily come off, like a velcro one.
  • SPF proof swimwear in addition to your sunscreen. There is never too much sun protection and get all the coverage you can find. I love that swimwear now is available with additional SPF because you can’t always swim in long sleeves and pants.
  • Water, water, and more water. Toddlers need hydration as much as adults and they’ll feel miserable too if they don’t stay hydrated. There is always that rule of drink before you’re thirsty. Stay on top of it and be sure they’re getting the amount they need.
  • Washcloths. Dip these in the cool water and place it around your child’s neck. This has an immediate effect on how your body feels and it can help them get the energy they need so that you can get them out of the heat.

Learn the best sun care tips for toddlers and all the essentials you'll need for the sun.Learn the best sun care tips for toddlers and all the essentials you'll need for the sun.Babies and ourselves need a lot of sun coverage for our skin. In the last few years I’ve had moles removed which were on the cusp of being cancerous. I’ve been more diligent to cover myself and my children more because of this. Tonga was by far my worst sunburn and so while we were there I made sure to cover them in Blue Lizard® sunscreen before they even started for the day. I knew they’d run off to the beach and sunscreen would be impossible for them to remember.Learn the best sun care tips for toddlers and all the essentials you'll need for the sun.I love the Blue Lizard® Baby Sunscreen especially for Malakai’s sensitive skin and you can easily find it at your local Walmart. But the most important feature I love is that the Patented Smart Bottle™ technology – bottle changes color when exposed to harmful UV sunlight. This can be used as a great teaching tool for your kids on when to re-apply sunscreen (only the bottle will change colors). Just remember to consult your pediatrician before applying sunscreen to children younger than 6 months.Learn the best sun care tips for toddlers and all the essentials you'll need for the sun.Tell me, what are your favorite sun care tips for toddlers? Create your own Farmhouse style baby nursery art with your Cricut Explore

February 28, 2017

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

diy nursery art with cricutcute boys nursery artI love Malakai’s nursery decor above his crib. It’s eclectic, kind of farmhouse and it’s all the right tones. For this project I’m going to show you how to make this ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ baby nursery art sign using your Cricut Explore. And I’ve include the .png for you to save to your computer and upload it to your Cricut Design Space using this method. Let’s get started! diy farmhouse frame for babySupplies

First, prepare your wood surface. I used Rustoleum stain in Driftwood (it is now called Sunbleached). It’s the perfect neutral grey and I used it on my Hair Pin Leg DIY Side Table. I then added my base color to the inlay of the wood. I wanted my monster to be light so I painted the base in Ceramcoat Charcoalhow to weed vinylNext,  you’ll cut your image using the dial setting on vinyl. Using your weeding tool, peel up the monsters body. It’ll leave behind the lettering and that’s what you want.
how to apply transfer paper to vinylNext you’ll adhere your transfer tape. I love the Cricut transfer tape because it has a guide on it to ensure you get an even image transfer. I use my scraper to press out the bubbles in the transfer tape. how to apply vinyl to woodOnce your base coat is dry, place the vinyl image where you want it to be and be sure to press extra good while the transfer tape is still over the vinyl. This will ensure that you get a good seal and no paint will seep down.  how to stencil with vinylOnce you have the vinyl where you want and it’s sealed down onto your wood, slowly peel up the transfer tape. This will now expose the area of the monster that you’re going to be painting. For this color I chose Ceramcoat Quaker Grey.

Before you paint your chosen color of the monster, take the extra time to paint your base coat over the area first. This will give you crisp lines and will help to avoid any bleeding. how to use vinyl as a stencilAfter the base color had dried over the monster, apply your desired color. I used the stippling method to apply my paint because I wanted a rough texture. Almost mimicking fur. Now wait 20 minutes until it is completely dry before using your weeding tool to remove the vinyl from the wood. how to remove vinylhow to age a wooden signI decided to sand it a bit for a rough texture but this is completely optional. I also sanded around the edges of the frame to expose some of the wood.
where the wild things are nursery artThis goes so well with Malakai’s wall. I’ve listed the sources of the other art below for your reference.

I also love the versatility of the Cricut Explore Air 2. Not only does it look good in the minty green but it’s so functional for daily uses. We recently made Siaki a MLK, Jr. poster board for his biography report. He loved it and so did I because it was so easy.

I just cut the top off of some greenery I grabbed from Ikea and glues it to the top of the babies heads. I used red velvet cake but you can get any kind you want. I especially love these Butterbeer Cupcakes from Sugar & Soul. I spread it with cream cheese frosting and dipped it in some brown sprinkles. You could also ground up some Oreos and dip them in to have it look like dirt.

The Best Fall Baby Boy Fashion with Carters

September 12, 2016

This post is sponsored by Carter’s; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. What are the best essential clothing for baby? Check out this guide. So Malakai is almost one. I cannot believe it. We’ve come so far from his days in the NICU and it almost seems like it was someone else’s life. I’m so glad he is healthy and strong today but we do have a ways to go. I want to share with you the best Fall baby boy fashion to grab at one of our favorite stores.

5-Pack Original BodysuitsWhat are the best essential clothing for baby? Check out this guide. When Malakai was in the NICU, the best preemie clothes we were able to find were at Carters. Their original bodysuit is something that I’ve used with all my kids and have found it to last longer and it was more durable than the ones you grab off the shelf at the supermarket. For the preemie clothes it gave my son the sense that he wasn’t a hospital patient. He was dressed so cute like a baby should be and the clothes actually fit his tiny body. Most premature clothes are wide and short. The Carters preemie clothes are close to the skin, give them actual designs on the clothes and were soft enough for them to be comfortable.

3-Piece Little Jacket Set

What are the best essential clothing for baby? Check out this guide. When Carters asked me to grab some items from their new Fall line, I was excited because of how much of their items we already own. However, being a baby photographer is not my thing and I think Malakai fell over 5-6 times. We went to our local pond and changed him a bunch of times into the cutest baby boy fashion you’ve ever seen. What are the best essential clothing for baby? Check out this guide. When choosing a wardrobe for a baby, think comfort. I think some new moms don’t realize how often they’ll  be changing a baby and how accessible a baby’s bottom needs to be for diaper changes. I love to get packs of the original bodysuit and always have a layer under my babies regular clothing. I also love the comfy pants that Carters has to offer. I also grab their Sleep & Play jammie’s but I try to stay away from the fleece. Because Malakai was a micro-preemie, he over heats a lot. He cotton is plenty warm for him and it does the trick. It’s also an experience thing when trying to figure out what works for your baby. Go ahead and try new things and see if it works for your family.
What are the best essential clothing for baby? Check out this guide.Carters clothes are so comfortable for babies and it makes a big difference in how they feel staying in certain items all day. Softness and durability are key when looking for baby fashion. There are so many fads going around and while they’re all adorable, you have to ask yourself if it’s really worth it for them to wear for a short amount of time for the money you’re spending. From my experience it’s all about comfort and sustainability which Carters clothing fits into those categories perfectly. What are the best essential clothing for baby? Check out this guide. When I am looking at baby boy or baby girl clothes, I want something that will last and that will also not break my budget. There are very few things that I find are actually worth spending the big bucks on like soft sole shoes and a good baby carrier. What are the best essential clothing for baby?
