If you follow me on Facebook, you may have heard last month that I’ve taken on a challenge…a HUGE challenge. I’m going to be running in the Chicago Half Marathon in September. No, I’ve never taken on running before but I know that it’s something I can do.
However, it’s something I can’t do alone. I’ve enlisted a lot of help from some different companies to help me on my journey and one of them is the oh so fabulous, Albion Fit.
You may have seen Simply Sadie Jane wearing their gear just because she is a beast but I got the chance to review their Go Long Crew with thumb-holes and now I can see why people want to live in their workout gear. You really can wear this shirt pretty much anywhere but it’s been really great for me when I’m running/jogging.
The convenience of the thumb-holes is something that you wouldn’t think would be practical but in all reality, it’s pretty genius. They hold the sleeves in place and keep the shirt comfortable.
The shirt is a poly/rayon/spandex blend and is soft and a really relaxed fit. I ordered myself an XXL because I thought maybe it would shrink and I’m a little self-conscious when I move… ;). It’s really held it’s shape and through each wash, it’s held its color and its softness.

I participated in this sponsored campaign on behalf of Victoria Jackson and One2One Network. All opinions are 100% my own.So I was given the opportunity to review Victoria Jackson makeup and I love me some makeup. I honestly had never heard of it, on,y through some other bloggers so I really had wanted to see what ins of quality of makeup it is. I received some of their Foundation Duo in Light (obviously), some of their Here Comes the Sun bronzing powder, their Perfect Everyday blush in Garden, and some of their Lush Mascara. You know that from now until April 4th you can save 25% off all Victoria Jackson makeup, so head to their site and grab some now using the code LOVEVJC. But first, check out what I think you should get for yourself!I decided that I’d wear it to church and I was really pleasantly surprised how much I liked it. I’m not someone who buys expensive makeup because of the money and the name. I buy makeup because I like it. I can buy $5 lipstick and pair it with a $20 foundation, if I like it, I will use it almost forever or until I find a superior replacement.
Now, for the foundation, I’m not a foundation person. I normally wear a CC cream but for when I wear a foundation, this is what I’ll now choose. This feels light and smooth, it’s not over bearing or the wrong color. It blends well and I like the tone it gave my skin. For the bronzer, I ended up using it like a contour powder. My skin is too fair for an all over bronzer but it does look darker in the pressed powder than what it does going on. For the blush, the Garden color was a it bright for my tone. I did end up rubbing some off even after I had patted some off my brush. The mascara! The mascara was and is my favorite. I have a really hard time with finding good mascara that doesn’t flake or leave dark circles around my eyes. I really loved this stuff. Make sure you follow Victoria Jackson on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for other ongoing promotions. XO
I am super excited to announce that I am going to be a contributor for Made by Pinterest! I’m super excited to be over there with those three wonderfully talented sisters. I’ve followed their site for a while and love that they have such a loyal following I was really excited to have these Kitten Ear Barrettes as my first tutorial. These were a little tricky for me because I used what I had on hand but I’m going to redo them when I have a chance and do it a better way. We all learn from our mistakes. I’ll let you know what those are but for now, you better be all ears!
I started with some leather in black and mauve. My black leather is actually pig skin, super light and flimsy. The mauve is upholstery leather, very stiff. You can easily use felt or some stiff fabric that you have on hand or run to the store. You really only need about 4-5″ of each color. I used the snap barrettes but I’m telling you now – DO NOT USE THOSE – use the alligator clips that have teeth. These will really give you a grip and will help your ears stay in place much longer.
So start with cutting out your shapes. I used a shape on my electronic cutter but you don’t need one of those by any means. Just eyeball it but make sure that your base width is as wide or wider than your clip, just like the picture and about 1″-1 1/14″ long. I cut mine before I looked at my clips – dumb mistake. Cut another piece that is going to go into the center and glue. I suggest hot glue or E6000 with a fine tip. Make it the exact same shape but a 1/4″ smaller all the way around.
You’ll now want to adhere them onto your clip with the hot glue. I just adhered the black part and I recommend that if your felt or fabric is extremely thick, either sew a small stitch or glue it so that it will stay folded upwards. This is why it was good to have the thicker leather, to help it stand. I especially think these are cute on little girls but they are definitely hip to wear with someone in their 20’s. Definitely a hipster accessory.
I hope that if you have questions, you’ll ask. When I do the update, I’ll be sure to point you in that direction. I think these would be darling also for a cat Halloween costume for moms or girls, too.

Over this year with starting up Frenchie Wraps and beginning my blog, I’ve come across some really fantastic companies. Companies that I never knew existed and never knew such quality could exist. In the past, I tended to stick to retail stores even though I loved seeing local goods, I didn’t always buy them. These shops have really changed my mind about all of that.
Instagram has been a great place for me to find a lot of local and handmade shops and to support the underdogs who put their heart and soul into what they do and make. I’ve received a lot of wonderful product from these companies and I really try hard to let you guys know what companies I love and what I personally would recommend.
I’m giving you all a chance to win something from shops all across the US of A and I’ll outline each and everyone here:
Jo Totes – Most of us in blogland have heard of them but I never really realized their quality until I had the opportunity to try out their Rose bag that they generously gave to me. I have the Marigold color and it’s so rich and perfect for any season. The adjustable inner pads are amazing so that you can fit whatever you’ll need from your camera to your ipad and maybe even a small enough laptop. They have kindly donated a Gracie bag in Mustard for us to give to you! Make sure you’re following them on Instagram to get your entry!
Hazel & Ruby – If you’re on my blog frequently, you know that I am on their Makery Team and I love every minute of it! They are here in SLC and have some of the coolest scrapbook/crafting products around. They have generously donated some stencil masks, wide washi tape and some of their new paper rolls. To see some of the things I’ve done with their products, check it out here and here. Follow them on Instagram for your entry!
Freshly Picked – You pretty much have to be living under a rock to not know the hottest moccasin maker in town. You’ll walk away with a pair of moccasins in any color of your choice and size as long it’s in stock. Check out Freshly Picked’s website for all their awesome moccasins. You also cannot have won another pair of FP moccs within the last 60 days. Follow them on Instagram for your entry too!
Holly Handcrafted Design’s – She’s kind of special in my book. Holly makes awesome handcrafted jewelry at home in New Hampshire. I had the chance to meet her last year when I was visiting my BFF and I look at her like she was taking care of Meg while I couldn’t. Holly has some really cool jewelry and she’s donated some earrings that I’m a little jealous of! Make sure to follow her on Facebook for your entry! She does all her orders on Facebook, FYI.
Jane – There are so many choices everytime I get their email telling me what’s on sale for the day! It’s always so tough so why not make it a little easier with a $25 gift certificate? They’ve been so kind to donate that to the winner as well! You’ll just need to sign up for their newsletter which is available here.
Nena & Co. – How can you not get behind a company who helps others earn a livable wage and put to use a skill they’ve been taught? Nena & Co. stands for so much awesomeness and I hope to one day own one of their Weekender Bags… umm, the hubs will say it won’t fit in the closet but I say buy a new house for that solution! They’ve donated the coolest clutch to store all your essentials that everyone will be asking where you got it from. Follow them on Instagram for your entry!
Fancy Frills Boutique – Another fabulous clothing site that I can’t get enough of. I always love going there and seeing what great deals they have. You can check them out here! Lauren and her sister started the business in their home a few years back and it’s been fun to see how wildly successful they’ve become. They always have the newest fashions and they’ve donated $25 to their shop to get you something good for Christmas! Make sure to follow them on Instagram for your entry!
Giveaways open to Canada will have a little Canadian flag in the top corner of their image (above). If there is also an American flag that means that giveaway is open to both countries. Most of the giveaways are open to the U.S. only (no flag on image).
I am so proud to be participating in this project. I was a little hesitant at first just like anyone would be posting pictures of your non glorious self all over the Internet! However, I was really pleased with how this project turned out. I’m proud of the woman I’ve become. I’m proud of the challenges I’ve faced and that I’ve endured because I know that it has contributed to my beauty. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the beholder is you!
I am Brave and Beautiful – a beauty movement that is sweeping the globe. Colbie Caillat started it with her recent song and video called TRY. My blogging friend Megan of Brassy Apple wanted to push this movement along and invited women from all over to share what they looked like without make up and I joined in!! Colbie’s song says, “Take your make up off. Let your hair down… Look into the mirror at yourself, Do you like you? Cause I like you… “
Megan and her friend Cobi of Peacefrom6pieces have been the team behind this whole project. Their worldwide vision included creating their own video inspired by the song TRY. The talent of Robbins Creative made it possible for them to pull it off. You have to click play and see the beauty and bravery displayed and you might even recognize a few faces in there.
Me along with 101+ other blogging women from different backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, ages, shapes and sizes have decided to be Brave and Beautiful! You can join in this movement too by sharing what you look like without makeup on. You don’t need a blog either! Just tag your photo with #IamBraveAndBeautiful on Instgram and search the hashtag to see who else has joined in. ALSO, if you tag it with a second hashtag – #ColbieTRY we just might be able to get Colbie Caillat’s attention since she was the inspiration behind it all!
Are you brave and beautiful? I am, here I go!
I am brave and I am beautiful. We all submitted photos of us in makeup and then the challenge is for us to post photos of us with no makeup. This is supposed to empower me? In a way I feel more empowered in the full makeup shot because most days I look like the no makeup shot. I hardly ever wear makeup except for special occasions or if I’m feeling like 1000% awesome (that’s not very often).
For me to feel awesome takes a lot because of my Fibromyalgia. First thing in the morning I have to make sure and get my medicine in me or by noon I will feel like a stiff board, I won’t be able to function and it will affect me for 2 days. I have to remember my meds at night to. Ugh, medicine…it makes me feel ugly, old, just plain unhealthy which is what I am. I am completely unhealthy. While I know that I cannot be cured of Fibromyalgia, I can for sure do more things to bring calm some of the symptoms.
Ever since blogging, there has been a complete turn around in my life. I’m going places, doing things and pushing myself. I feel like I have myself back, I feel good and when I feel good – that is when I feel beautiful. It’s not the makeup that I need, though it does help boost some ego I’ve got in me that comes up once in a while. When I’m feeling healthy, I can accomplish anything and do everything and I feel I have nothing holding me back.
To me being beautiful has nothing to do with looks. I always tell my husband that fat people need love too. When my son tells me about girls who have crushes on them and they don’t like them back – I always say to treat them always with respect and to never be rude even though you may not think they are pretty on the outside, they may be pretty on the inside. If we just only look at the exterior of people, we will never know the true beauty or ugliness of them. Always give people a chance, always look for the good, always be someones friend. It’s the least someone deserves and to me that is what being Brave and Beautiful is, not a face with makeup.
For me, I know that I can live in confidence that I am beautiful because I live in a supportive environment with a husband who tells me that, and that is important. But, the most important part is that you know it for yourself because there will be days that you’re not told or reminded and you have to tell it to yourself. You have to know that your heart is beautiful and that it’s not always what’s on the exterior that counts. For some people that is what only matters to them and it’s something to work past. When you have confidence then you don’t need to worry about it.
A good sense of humor also helps a lot too. I love joking about my curves. I know I don’t have a bangin’ body and I don’t ever expect to. If I look at my Mother and Grandmothers, I do not stand a chance, ever! My kids told me that the back of my knees look like butts and that I have melting boobs. Seriously kids, I’d love to hear what you have to say about it when you’re older and figure out that one of you made my body look that way. They also love to separate my belly roll to find my belly button. It’s just life and I’m not embarrassed, I really think it’s quite funny. They think it’s funny. It’s a way that they can learn every body is different and everyone has different body types.
I hope that you’re able to learn something from my beauty post and really learn what your true beauty is and love yourself. In the end, maybe you feel this is selfish, but your opinion of yourself is the only one that matters. It is not selfish, it’s the truth. I will have to say at the end of writing this I feel very empowered and I love that we were challenged to write these posts and take those pictures!
